Reading a GitHub and a resume
The artifacts, read properly. A GitHub profile and an engineering resume both hold real evidence and a large amount of decoration, and the difference is visible in ninety seconds once you know the order to look in.
Lessons
- How do you read a developer's profile and resume? The one guide to the artifacts: the scan order on a GitHub profile, what stars and green squares are worth, how to check an open source claim, and which resume words carry weight.
- How do you read a GitHub profile? A fixed scan order instead of anxious scrolling, built on the fact that the profile is self-curated.
- What do green squares, stars, and fifty repositories actually mean? Calibration with real numbers. What star counts distribute like, how the green wall is produced, and the checks that separate authored work from copies.
- Is an empty GitHub profile a red flag? What public work is evidence of, what its absence takes out of the read, and why the honest answer sits between normal and disqualifying.
- How do you verify an open source contribution claim? Merged pull requests are public, dated, and reviewed by someone else. The check takes ninety seconds.
- How do you read a skills list with fifteen technologies on it? The shelves used as a sieve. A coherent stack tells a story, and a keyword wall describes an applicant tracking strategy.
- Which verbs matter on an engineering resume? Resume forensics on the words that describe accountability, and the numbers that mean nothing yet.
- What does a developer's job history shape tell you? The timeline itself as evidence: two-year moves, nine years in one seat, and side projects at midnight.
